Information on the Hitch-hike Weekend
Get ready for an adventure! It is time to sign up for Akcie’s annual hitch-hike weekend once again! This event will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of April, this is week 5 of period 5. For being able to participate in this event, you have to be available the entire day on both days. The deadline for registration and/or cancellation is 29th of January. Afterwards, this ticket is not refundable.
Payment, registration and cancellation
Registration needs to be fulfilled in duo’s – per duo you buy 1 ticket of €80,00.
The fee of 40 euros includes: hostel stayover, some snacks for Saturday and the public transport back to Wageningen, and of course the awesome experiences you will have on the road! Please note that costs for food and drinks at the final location are not included in this fee. We hope that no further payment will be necessary, but an after payment of maximum 5 euros might be asked depending on final unknown costs (e.g. fuel).
The deadline for registration and/or cancellation is 29th of January. Afterwards, this ticket is not refundable. If for any reasons you will not participate anymore, the money will not be reimbursed to you. It might be possible to transfer your ticket to someone else, however, this might come with extra costs as the train/bus tickets need to be altered. To check, please contact us.
The event/planning
On Saturday morning, we will meet with all attendees at a central place in Wageningen. After some last instructions, all duos will depart at the same time, and start the race to the city abroad. The city we are going to will be revealed on the morning of departure. From that moment, it will be a race between the sixteen duos to reach the city, and there will be a trophy for the winner. And of course, this has to be done via hitch-hiking – asking strangers if you can have a ride with their vehicle. Further rules concerning this will be explained in due time.
Then, we expect all duo’s to have reached the city of destination throughout the end of the afternoon. We can then spend that time to explore the city. We will stay in a hostel, so any luggage can be dropped there, and we will spend the evening with the entire group, just having fun, getting some dinner, and maybe a little pub-crawl of some sorts! We for sure will have a lot of stories to share!
Then on Sunday morning, we have breakfast and hopefully will explore the city a bit more (e.g. with a guided tour, to learn something about the city). Then, in the start of the afternoon, we will embark on the return journey to Wageningen. But fear not! We will organize this trip by public transport. We aim to be back in Wageningen around dinnertime.
Safety
For any concerns about hitch-hiking, we will aim to make it as safe as possible. There will be a back-up car on the road, to make sure everyone reaches the final destination, and there will be contact persons available at all times to assist when necessary. We will also ask you to share the number plates of the cars you get on to, and of course ask you to use common sense when hitch-hiking.
